The workshops are aimed at actors and will be led by Plain Clothes Theatre’s artistic director, Sam Berger. Based loosely on Stanislavski’s later works - most notably 'Methods Of Physical Action', the Meisner technique encourages actors to ‘live truthfully under the imaginary circumstances of the play’. Through a series of improvisational and text-based exercises the actor learns to move the emphasis of acting away from themselves (as both Stanislavski and Lee Strasberg encourage) and instead onto bringing about change in their co-performers. For further information on the Meisner Technique, click here to see the Wikipedia entry.
The technique is used by many well known actors including Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Robert Duvall, Diana Keaton, Jeff Goldblum and Tom Cruise, and is effective for both theatre and TV/film acting.
Classes will be held at the Broadmead Baptist Church in central Bristol and will cost £10 per session. To register for these classes, please download an application form (click here to do so). If you require further information, feel free to contact us at meisner@plainclothestheatre.com.
